June 19, 2023 – Sarasota

The Women’s Resource Center is partnering with the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), to provide a free virtual information session on its cybersecurity boot camp program Wednesday, June 28, 1:30-2:30 p.m. The guest speaker is Desh Bagley, director at SCF’s IT/Coding Academy. The session is part of WRC’s Career Connections program that links women to quality jobs and funded training programs. Participants can attend by phone or computer and will be able to ask questions via a chat box. Those interested can register at www.mywrc.org/cyber or call (941) 256-9721 for more information.

“After spending almost 20 years in the cybersecurity industry, this program is near and dear to my heart,” says Lori Gentile, director of client services at WRC. “I’ve seen the demand for cybersecurity professionals continue to rise. A degree or certification in this field can provide various job opportunities and increase career progression prospects.”

Gentile explains that SCF’s Coding Academy offers an intensive training program called the Cybersecurity Bootcamp, which aims to equip individuals with little to no IT background with the necessary skills to secure entry-level positions in the highly sought-after and profitable field of cybersecurity. The program prioritizes training in the skills most in demand by employers and imparts technical knowledge and essential career skills for success in the industry.

Deshjuana “Desh” Bagley is the director at SCF’s IT/Coding Academy and is also a professional IT trainer, international STEM advocate, TEDx speaker, and founder and CEO of TechPlayzone, Inc. Bagley also serves as the program delivery partner for FIRST LEGO League Robotics throughout a 17-county region for over 100 teams and 500 volunteers. Her visionary leadership builds on the core principles of thinking big, innovative results, and continued learning. Desh Bagley graduated from the University of South Florida and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

WRC offers robust career program initiatives, including free individual career coaching, resume preparation, interviewing skills, networking techniques, access to a local job list and more.
