Van Wezel Thanks Healthcare Workers and Community Volunteers

By  |

May 9, 2022 – Sarasota

As the 2021-2022 season comes to an end, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall would like to extend a sincere thank you to the volunteers, healthcare workers and community members who made it possible for us to open our theater again. Putting on exceptional shows each night takes an enormous amount of manpower and would not be possible without our volunteers.

With each show, the ushers would pleasantly greet patrons and assist them with navigating the theater. Security and police officers would arrive early to provide guests with an enjoyable experience entering the theater. Teaching Artists would go out into the community to introduce our youngest guests to arts and entertainment at a young age, enriching their school curriculums. And members of our medical community ensured the Van Wezel could open safely with appropriate COVID-19 protocols in place.

This year, a heartfelt thank you goes to our first responders, nurses, doctors and health care administrators who continued to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, with a special thank you to Dr. Manuel E. Gordillo, who met with the Van Wezel staff and helped set the protocols to keep audiences safe. The kindhearted assistance from Dr. Gordillo allowed our community to return to live entertainment while keeping health a top priority. An additional heartfelt thank you to Dr. David Verinder, President and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. Jonathan Mitchell, friend and supporter of the Van Wezel, made this possible.

In gratitude, the Van Wezel made complimentary tickets available to our healthcare workers to shows such as Come from Away, Jay LenoAnastasia, Tango Fire, Renee FlemingMasters of Illusion and more.

Again, thank you to the volunteers, community members and patrons who continue to make each season at the Van Wezel possible. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting 2022-2023 season. At this time, the Van Wezel expects a return to normal audience protocols for the upcoming season. Patrons may choose to wear a mask, but no requirements are planned.
