April 26, 2021 – Sarasota

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art will be screening The Blood is at the Doorstep Friday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Say His Name virtual panel discussion. The discussion, which is available via Zoom, will include four women whose families have been impacted by police violence over the last decade, including Maria Hamilton, mother of Dontre Hamilton about whom the film was made. Angela Harrelson and Paris Stevens, Co-Chairs of the George Floyd Global Memorial and Natasha Clemons, a Sarasota mother and founder of the Rodney Mitchell Foundation will join Ms. Harrelson and Dr. Queen Zabriskie who will moderate this timely conversation.

The Blood at the Doorstep tells the story of family’s quest for answers, justice, and reform following the shooting death of Dontre Hamilton. Filmed over the course of three years in the direct aftermath of Dontre’s death, this intimate documentary explores the family’s struggles as they challenge a criminal justice system stacked against them.

The film event and post-film discussion will take place in the Historic Asolo Theater for a limited audience. The post-film discussion will also be available to audiences via Zoom. Tickets for the film and panel discussion inside the Historic Asolo Theater are $15, $13.50 for members and $10 for students. Guests may also attend just the virtual panel discussion via Zoom. Tickets are $5 per household or free for members. All guests will be able to submit written questions during the discussion. Tickets may be purchased at ringling.org.
