The Perlman Music Program Suncoast Presents Alumni Quartet Recitals

By  |

February 14, 2023 – Sarasota

The Perlman Music Program nurtures the talent of gifted young musicians by providing an opportunity for them to train in Sarasota with Itzhak Perlman at the PMP Winter Residency. After the residency, PMP students move on to higher education and careers. The Perlman Music Program Suncoast (PMP Suncoast) then invites these alumni back to the Sarasota-Manatee region for performances and outreach initiatives throughout the year. Each performance offers a unique opportunity for area audiences to learn about and interact with the musicians through Q&A sessions and post-concert receptions.

In February, PMP Suncoast presents two recitals by PMP alumni. A PMP Alumni Chamber Quartet, with Jeremiah Blacklow, violin; Valerie Kim, violin; Jameel Martin, viola; and Daniel Hass, cello, will perform Friday, February 17, 7 p.m., at the Harvest,3650 17th Street Sarasota; and on Saturday, February 18, 1 p.m., at The Oval on The Bay, 1055 Blvd of the Arts, Sarasota. Tickets for the February 17th performance are $30 (VIP) and $15 (general admission). The February 18th outdoor performance is free, but registration is requested. Guests are advised to bring a lawn chair. To purchase tickets, register for the free event, and for more information, visit PerlmanSuncoast.org.

The recital program features Mozart String Quartet in D Major, K575; the Brahms String Quartet in A minor, Opus 51 No. 2; and Daniel Hass’ original composition “Song without Words.” The program is subject to change.

“We are thrilled to welcome our first PMP alumni quartet of the season,” says Lisa Berger, executive director of Perlman Suncoast. “What makes these performances so rewarding for audiences is that the alumni share insights into the music and the composer of the music they will play. And audiences have a chance, during the Q&A sessions afterwards, to learn more about both the music and the musicians.” Berger adds that an especially exciting aspect of this program will be the opportunity to hear PMP alum Daniel Hass’s new work entitled “Song without Words.”
