The Latest Sarasota Memorial Hospital Updates from CEO David Verinder

By  |

During these unprecedented times, Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) has released a video interview of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System’s President and CEO David Verinder addressing:

  • The Latest COVID Positive Patient Numbers at SMH: While the hospital has seen a slight uptick in COVID positive patients, these patients remain 2-3% of the total inpatient volumes. The hospital is taking all necessary precautions to isolate these patients and protect all other patients, staff and visitors.
  • The Updated Visitor Policy: Now that the visitor policy at SMH has been eased, hospital staff continue to monitor everyone who enters the building. The SMH team is regularly evaluating the policy to ensure that it is working, and to see when it can be eased further.
  • Current Inpatient Volumes at SMH: The hospital is seeing inpatient volumes return to normal for this time of year and has been able to bring back 80 percent of the furloughed staff. SMH anticipates bringing virtually every furloughed staff member by the end of June.
  • SMH Hurricane Preparations: While SMH continues to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital is also preparing for hurricane season. The hospital is ready if a hurricane did hit the Sarasota area.
