The Bay Park Conservancy Adds Mayor Liz Alpert to Board and Executive Team

By  |

The Bay Park Conservancy Board of Directors has been joined by Sarasota Mayor, Liz Alpert. The City Commission designated Alpert to serve as one of two of the City’s ex-officio members serving on the Conservancy’s Board of Directors. The addition of Mayor Alpert further strengthens the public/nonprofit partnership between the Conservancy and the City of Sarasota.

Mayor Alpert is a family law attorney in Sarasota. She graduated from Stetson University College of Law and has been practicing in Sarasota since her admission to the Florida Bar in September 2006. A dedicated community member with a passion for growth and success, Alpert was appointed to the City of Sarasota’s Human Relations Board in 2003 where she served until 2007. She was then appointed to the city’s General Personnel/Civil Service board, where she served until her election to the Sarasota City Commission on May 12, 2015.

“The Bay Park Conservancy is delighted to add Mayor Alpert to our team of community leaders. Her determination to build success for herself, the City of Sarasota, and our entire community, will build and strengthen our Board of Directors, who all have a passion for our mission and bring unique skills that expand our culture of excellence,” said The Bay Park Conservancy Chair, Cathy Layton.

Mayor Alpert will be joining Steve Cover, the City of Sarasota’s Planning Director, the second ex-offico member to represent the City of Sarasota. Cover served on the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization and continued on the Conservancy in January.

“The Bay Park Conservancy has shown its dedication to cultivating a longstanding and beneficial partnership with the City of Sarasota and our community,” said Mayor Alpert. “I am excited to become a part of its mission and progress as it builds a path toward growth and success in implementing and developing an open, accessible, and free public park for everyone.”

With Mayor Alpert’s expertise and support on the Conservancy’s team, in addition to Steve Cover’s experience and knowledge, the collaboration and partnership between The Bay Park Conservancy and the City of Sarasota has strengthened and become positioned for transforming the bayfront.

The immediate focus of The Bay Park Conservancy is to fund, design, and implement Phase 1 of The Bay Park, approximately nine acres of land south of the Van Wezel, which will include a revitalized coastal wetlands and bayou, a living learning laboratory, and a signature sunset pier.

The other members of The Bay Park Conservancy Board of Directors are Cathy Layton, Robert Lane, Jennifer Compton, Steven Cover, Carlos de Quesada, Keith Dubose, Rod Hershberger, Michael Klauber, Cynthia McCague, Emily Walsh. The Conservancy’s executive management team is comprised of A.G. Lafley, William Waddill, and Veronica Brady.
