May 26, 2021 – Sarasota

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is pleased to announce that Skyway 20/21: A Contemporary Collaboration will open June 20, 2021. The exhibition is a celebration of artistic practices in the Tampa Bay region and highlights the diversity of art being made in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties.

Four regional art museums – the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the Tampa Museum of Art and the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum will participate with the first exhibition opening May 22.

Due to the challenging circumstances of the global health pandemic COVID-19, the exhibition was postponed from its original date last summer. Skyway 20/21 features the work of 49 artists and art collectives. Following an open call for submissions, the artists were selected by the museum curators and guest juror Claire Tancons, an independent curator and scholar whose practice takes a global focus on the conditions of cultural production.

Artists and art collectives with work on view at The Ringling from June 20 to Sept. 26 include: Carrie Boucher, Ya Levy La’ford, Kalup Linzy, Noelle Mason, OK! Transmit, Eric Ondina, Heather Rosenbach and Jake Troyli. The Ringling’s Ola Wlusek, Keith D. and Linda L. Monda Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Christopher Jones, Stanton B. and Nancy W. Kaplan Curator of Photography and Media Art collaborated to curate the exhibition.
