A new presentation of “Salvador Dalí: Gardens of the Mind” has traveled to Denver Botanic Gardens. The exhibition, originated as part ofMarie Selby Botanical Gardens’ Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition series, is on view April 10 to August 22, 2021 in the Freyer – Newman Center at Denver Botanic Gardens. The Gardens’ exhibition features FlorDalí and Surrealist Flowers, two rarely seen series of fanciful color lithographs of flowers and fruits, which is organized by Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and The Dalí Museum.

This marks the first time an exhibition in Selby Gardens’ Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition Series has traveled to another botanical garden, and it marks an exciting new chapter in Selby Gardens’ Living Museum® operating model.

“Traveling our one-of-a-kind exhibitions is an excellent opportunity to further put Selby Gardens, Sarasota, and the State of Florida on the world stage. It is also an opportunity to further our commitment to financial sustainability by creating a new stream of revenue,” says Jennifer Rominiecki, president and CEO of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.

Jeannie Perales, vice president for museum exhibits, learning, & engagement, spearheaded the inquiry and logistics to partner with a network of public garden colleagues who integrate art into their programming.  “This is an exciting opportunity for Selby Gardens,” shares Perales, “Having botanical gardens across the nation take notice of our creativity and want to bring this to their gardens and museums is one of the highest compliments that we can receive. We hope to expand the traveling exhibition program in the future.”

Selby Gardens’ Living Museum® exhibition model and immersive Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition Series examines major artists and their relationships to nature in the context of a botanical garden. Seeing master works of art in a garden setting awakens new comparisons in viewers’ minds. The Living Museum® model at the Downtown Sarasota campus mirrors the operation of traditional art museums by featuring a changing schedule of rotating exhibitions featuring horticultural and garden displays.
