ORIOLES ANNOUNCE 2020 SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULE

By  |

The Orioles announced their 2020 Grapefruit League home opener will be on Sunday, February 23 at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla. against the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles will open their Spring slate one day earlier on Saturday, February 22, with a road game at CoolToday Park in North Port, Fla. against the Atlanta Braves. The club’s Grapefruit League season, which features 16 home dates, will conclude with a home game on Sunday, March 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Tuesday, February 11, while the full-squad report date is set for Sunday, February 16. The 2020 season will mark the Orioles’ 11th consecutive Spring Training season in Sarasota and the club’s 10th at renovated Ed Smith Stadium.

The Orioles will face 10 different Major League opponents during the club’s 16-game home schedule. The Orioles will host the following teams twice at Ed Smith Stadium: the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Twins, and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Orioles will also square off against the Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Washington Nationals each once at home.

Weekends will be full of family fun with eight of the club’s 16 home games falling on either a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Following Sunday home games, all children between the ages of 4-14 will be able to participate in a postgame Kids Run the Bases.

The Orioles will play 16 road games during the Spring Training season, including two trips to visit the Braves, Phillies, Red Sox, Pirates, Rays, and Twins; and one trip each to take on the Nationals, Marlins, Yankees, and Blue Jays.

In the 10 years since the Orioles moved Major League Spring Training to Sarasota, more than one million fans have enjoyed Orioles games at Ed Smith Stadium. The Orioles’ engagement with the Greater Sarasota community goes far beyond baseball. By marketing Sarasota to fans in the Mid-Atlantic region, operating a year-round athletic training facility, producing entertainment and sporting events, partnering with charitable causes, and hosting and often subsidizing youth sports tournaments and activities, the Orioles demonstrate an abiding commitment to their Florida home.
