Meet the Artist: Susan Cronk

By  |

June 2022—Susan Cronk is an American figurative abstract expressionist who began painting at a very young age. Growing up in New York City and the northeast, she was exposed to and fully immersed in the burgeoning, post-modern art scene of the day. She continued to study art privately while simultaneously pursuing a degree in journalism from Boston University.

Primarily a self-taught artist, she has managed to keep a working studio while moving over 30 times and raising five very active children. She hopes Sarasota will be her last destination, and marks her first attempt at opening her studio to the public as a gallery/studio experiment.

Her work encompasses a wide range of media with inspiration sourced primarily from her imagination, and keen sense of color, form, line, and texture.  The connection between realism and abstraction remains a constant presence in her work. “I do not paint from photography, real object still life, or models, but rather from ideas that emerge and evolve as I paint.” These imaginations more often than not will speak to the human condition;  the struggle and achievement, the sorrow and the joy, but most notably the optimism that must endure in order to sustain life.
