Learn Painting and Drawing in The Ringling Courtyard

By  |

March 15, 2021 – Sarasota

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is pleased to offer Observational Painting/Drawing in the Ringling Courtyard. The program, part of the Museum Intensive series, will run five weeks from April 1 to April 29.

This course is designed for adults with intermediate to advanced skills and will follow the Western academic approach of classical methods of direct observation. Students will meet weekly in the Museum of Art Courtyard for two-hour sessions on Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

In order to maintain social distancing during class, students will be sent instructional demo videos to watch before the live in person class session. During the live class, students will have access to the collection and receive feedback and personalized instruction from teaching artist Keith Crowley.

Crowley is the Senior Preparator at The Ringling and has lived in Sarasota since 2015. His work as an artist has been focused primarily on oil and watercolor painting. While most of the imagery in his paintings leans heavily on the history of Western painting techniques, photography and cinema have played a significant role within his work. Keith Crowley received his MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2002. Upon graduation, Keith lived and worked in Philadelphia, where his work was represented by Bridgette Mayer Gallery and Tiger Strikes Asteroid. Before being hired as the Senior Preparator at the Ringling, Keith worked as a preparator for over 10 years at Princeton University Art Museum.

The fee for the series is $225 / $175 for members and is nonrefundable. ‎‎Please note‎‎: the class registration fee does not include the cost of art supplies, estimated to be $60 – $150. ‎‎ ‎‎Registration is capped at 10 students. ‎
