Women On The Scene

Joanna Roberti, a native Floridian who was born in Orlando and moved to Sarasota in 1994, calls herself a “creative Virgo.” That accounts for her career as a personal stylist and her enthusiasm for interior design. “I just love helping create something beautiful.”

Virgos are also more action than talk, says Joanna, explaining why she kayaks, paddleboards, and scuba dives. She’s also a certified shark feeder and has climbed mountains. “I trust my intuition to guide me to the next thing. I love to live life on the edge.”

For the past twenty years, the “next thing” has included supporting Boys & Girls Clubs, Make-A-Wish, the Van Wezel, Forty Carrots, and SPARCC. “When I was growing up, I had nothing—literally nothing,” Joanna explains. “So, when I finally had something, I always made sure to take care of others. I wanted to pay it forward.”

Two organizations that are near and dear to her heart are the Humane Society of Sarasota County and ASPCA. An animal lover through and through, Joanna currently has three Yorkies—St. Nicholas, Valentino, and Olivia. She’s also a foster mom who takes in dogs “as much as possible” until they find their forever home. “I’ve had as many as eight at a time!” she admits.

Joanna tries to make a difference beyond our own community when she can. For example, she’s been to Africa many times where she helped the children by supporting the building of new schools and planting an abundance of trees. About this missionary work, she says, “So many kids over there really need our help.”

As much as she loves to travel, Sarasota remains Joanna’s forever home. “The culture here is so amazing. It’s the perfect little crown jewel on the Gulf Coast—I’m so happy to be part of this wonderful, supportive community.”
