February 7, 2024 – Sarasota

On February 6, 2024, Girls Inc. of Sarasota County will host the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation Board of Trustees at a celebratory dinner to recognize five years of Toulmin Scholars who are successfully navigating and succeeding in their post-secondary efforts. Hosted at Michael’s on East Wine Cellar at 7:15pm, this event will connect those who work to continue the legacy of Virginia B. Toulmin.

Thanks to the generosity of the Toulmin Foundation, Girls Inc. girls aged 18 – 24 are provided with scholarships that often closes the gap between the cost of college and secured financial aid, ensuring that Toulmin Scholars graduate from their programs without debt. The Toulmin Scholars are diverse in their future goals but have much in common as they work to achieve them: They are often the first in their family to attend college, have overcome significant barriers, and focus on health care or social services so they can lead in the sectors that they have experienced firsthand. This celebration is a chance for the Toulmin Scholars to tie their collegiate experience with the legacy and dreams of Virginia B. Toulmin.

The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life and improving conditions for children and their families. It operates primarily in three areas and, in each, will look for opportunities to assist their grantees achieve financial sustainability and integrate educational opportunities into their programs.

President & CEO, Angie Stringer says, “We are so fortunate to partner with the Toulmin Foundation. It is a true honor to continue Virginia’s legacy through our college aged girls, and it is humbling to witness what our girls can accomplish when someone invests in their inevitable success. This is the first time we have convened 5 years of Toulmin Scholars, and know that the celebration will reflect the hopes that Virginia had for empowering women and girls. She paved the way for our girls, and they will carry her legacy with them well into the future.
