Community Foundation of Sarasota County Awards Grant to Ringling College
February 16, 2022 – Sarasota
Ringling College of Art and Design today announced the receipt of a grant totaling $35,000 from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County sponsoring 2021/2022 season programming for the College’s Lois and David Stulberg Gallery, the Richard and Barbara Basch Gallery, Campus Art Walks, and Silver Sponsorship of the Sarasota Art Museum’s Judith Linhares: The Artist as Curatorexhibition. The Strategic Partnership grant was awarded from the Community Foundation’s Zella I. and Junius F. Allen Fund.
“The ongoing support of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has been vital to both helping our curatorial teams create vibrant and engaging exhibitions that capture the essence and exhilaration of contemporary art and in supporting the spaces in which to experience it,” said Ringling College of Art and Design President Dr. Larry R. Thompson. “Truly the foundation is aptly-named for they have and continue to provide the resources and direction that have proven vital to building our community.”
Located in the Richard and Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center in the heart of campus, The Lois and David Stulberg Gallery is Ringling College’s premier on-campus exhibition space. The gallery presents lively, rotating displays of contemporary painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and experimental work by student, faculty, emerging, and established artists. Currently on exhibition until March 25, 2022 in the gallery is POW! The Comic Art of Mike Zeck from the Costas Collection.
Sarasota Art Museum is Ringling College of Art and Design’s dynamic laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art. As Sarasota’s only museum solely focused on contemporary artists and their work, Sarasota Art Museum offers visitors a place to see thought-provoking exhibitions and participate in education programs that start conversations and amplify the city’s creative spirit. The Community Foundation grant provides Silver Sponsorship of the current Judith Linhares: The Artist as Curator exhibition running now until April 3, 2022.
Judith Linhares will conduct an artist talk at the Museum on Wednesday, March 23, from 6-7 pm outdoors in the Marcy & Michael Klein Plaza. Moderated by the Museum’s Assistant Curator, Emory Conetta, the event is free to members and $20 for not-yet members.
The Richard and Barbara Basch Gallery is located on the first floor of the Larry R. Thompson Academic Center and features 1200 sq-ft of exhibition space with the adjoining Harold and Ronald Kendall Atrium for hosting artist receptions and other events. From January 10 to March 25, Ringling College Galleries and Exhibitions presents A Few of Our Favorite Things, Pt. 2, the 13th annual curated exhibition of works from the world-class art glass collection of Richard and Barbara Basch. This season’s not-to-be-missed exhibition features animal-themed works in “Animal Lovers’ Corner” and small-scale works in “Barbara’s Mini-Bar.” This exhibition features some of the most exceptional examples of art glass and brilliant one-of-a-kind commissions by the greatest masters of the medium from around the world: Lino Tagliapietra, Lucio Bubacco, Dale Chihuly, Laura Donefer, Baldwin and Guggisberg, Davide Salvadore, and many more.
