Associate Artistic Director Derek Han, 64, Dies of COVID 19 Complications

The board of directors and the staff of La Musica are deeply saddened by the loss of Associate Artistic Director Derek Han, who passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021. The cause was Covid-19. Our hearts go out to Derek’s family, his friends and all the people he touched through his music.

Derek was a loving father, an extraordinarily talented musician, and a loyal friend to many. He travelled the world performing chamber music and had recently returned from Italy where he met with Artistic Director Bruno Giuranna to plan our 2022 season. A mere 35 years ago, Derek and Bruno founded La Musica di Asolo, bringing an international chamber music festival to Sarasota. Derek was the artistic director of Chamber Music Festival of Trieste, performed regularly at the Marlboro Music Festival and Music at Menlo, and concertized around the world.
