Amy Lou (right) has always been interested in design. “I played with Barbies until sixth grade, just so I could decorate their house!” she says, half-joking. After hearing a motivational speaker encourage people to find success by “doing something different than what everyone else is doing,” Amy put an ad on Facebook that offered one free room makeover. The first person who contacted her owned a $2 million home. Ecstatic by the results, they hired Amy to redo the rest of their house.

When Amy’s husband needed to relocate to Lakewood Ranch six years ago, Amy took that as a sign to start fresh, as well. She launched Amy Lou Interiors, an interior design, remodeling, home staging, and event decorating firm. One of her earliest projects was Angela Bassett’s St. Petersburg home. Amy displayed the work she did for Bassett and others on Houzz.com, a site “to browse and save beautiful photos of inspiring homes.” That led to Amy working as a designer on A&E’s Flip Wars for a full season. Magazine features and a cover story in Home & Design on Amy’s design work helped establish her as a top designer.

A large mural in Amy’s office says: “I am going to make everything around me beautiful, that will be my life.” That’s exactly what Amy does. “We take care of our clients and make them number one. They become part of our family,” she says. Amy brings TV flair to her projects, too, by keeping clients out as much as possible to set up a Big Reveal with music, champagne, and excitement all around. “The looks on their faces are priceless!”

“We’re a boutique brand,” she explains. “We don’t do things the same way for everyone.” What they all get, though, is this—Amy’s passion, expertise, and boundless creativity.
