April 4, 2022 – Sarasota

The Women’s Resource Center continues its Wonder Women Collective series with “The Power of Authenticity,” April 26, 4-8 p.m., at The Barn, 8th Ave. W., an outdoor venue in Bradenton. The Women’s Resource Center and Game On Nation, a Bradenton-based firm that uses improvisation, game dynamics and role-playing to open doors of communication, will host an interactive evening, which will also feature a livestream of the Giving Challenge, a 24-hour online giving initiative that connects local nonprofits with passionate supporters. Live music will be provided by Trevor Bystrom. The $25 admission includes the program, two drink tickets, and food from Polpo Pizza and Farmhouse Donuts. All proceeds from the Collective support the programs and services of the Women’s Resource Center. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit mywrc.org/collective.

Anne Carter, WRC’s Communication and Development Manager, says that the organization launched the Collective 2020 “when many of us were isolated, the world felt divisive, and we all needed to feel more connected.” She adds that “how we show up makes a difference—at work, at home, and in our community. And showing up as your most authentic self allows you to be the main character in your life.”

Carter explains that, during the interactive event, Game On Nation’s Director of Client Experience Erin Watson will guide participants through an uplifting experience focused on strategies that will empower them to be more present, “own our words, and lift others through authentic connections. Come prepared to grow, connect, and experience joy, but, most of all, come as yourself.”

WRC presented three virtual Wonder Women Collective sessions during the 2020-2021 season. These included a panel discussion and webinars exploring themes of community engagement, breaking down barriers, building strong networks, defining personal limitations and controlling your own narrative. The organization kicked off its 2022 Wonder Women Collective with a live event in December in Sarasota.

“We’re reinventing the way we present our fundraising events,” says Ashley Brown, WRC’s executive director.

“We’re moving away from the speaker/luncheon format to an interactive concept—one in which participants can easily connect and engage. We create spaces where women can come together to share ideas and concerns—and a place where they can find encouragement and learn from one another.” She adds that the diverse mix of participants makes these sessions invaluable. “Our groups are comprised of donors, community members, WRC clients, and staff,” Brown says. “We’re breaking down barriers and sharing our message in a new way.”
