Women’s Resource Center Kicks Off 2022 Wonder Women Collective

Every woman has heroic potential. That untapped power is the inspiration behind the Women’s Resource Center’s Wonder Women Collective, a new initiative that launched in October 2020. According to Ashley Brown, WRC’s president and CEO, “The Collective brings together diverse voices with different experiences and perspectives to build unity and create conversations that engage, support, inspire and challenge.” She adds that the initiative was created in response to recent trends that often split women apart. “Today’s divisive climate prompted us to step away from negativity and connect as women,” Brown says. “The Collective is empowered by the belief that every woman is a Wonder Woman.”

WRC presented three virtual Wonder Women Collective sessions during the 2020-2021 season. These included a panel discussion and webinars exploring themes of community engagement, breaking down barriers, building strong networks, defining personal limitations and controlling your own narrative.

Brown says she’s thrilled that WRC will kick off its 2022 Wonder Women Collective with a live event, Thursday, December 2, 4-7 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. She adds that the Collective series will then follow a hybrid model—with virtual and in-person sessions throughout the year. The kick-off event will follow an innovative model as well.  

“We’re reinventing the way we present our fundraising events,” says Brown. “We’ve moving away from the speaker/luncheon format to an interactive concept—one in which participants can easily connect and engage.” She adds that, for the second year of the Collective, WRC is partnering with Game On Nation, a Bradenton-based firm that uses improvisation, game dynamics and role playing to open up doors of communication.

How would Brown define WRC’s game-changing Collective series for someone who’s never experienced it before?

“We create spaces where women can come together to share ideas and concerns—and a place where they can find encouragement and learn from one another.” She adds that the diverse mix of participants makes these sessions invaluable. “Our groups are comprised of donors, community members and WRC clients and staff,” Brown says. “We’re breaking down barriers and sharing our message in a new way.”

Tickets for the season launch event are $50 and include complimentary appetizers and drinks. All proceeds directly support the programs of the Women’s Resource Center.
