Upcoming Events at the Van Wezel

sota, FL (August 31) – The Van Wezel announces new programming, providing something for everyone! While the main stage and theatre remain closed to the public, the Hall is offering virtual and live programming including trivia, a virtual detective experience, a special magic trick taught by world-famous illusionist REZA himself and an all-new series of intimate, LIVE performances: Cabaret by the Bay! Reservations for all events goon sale on Thursday, September 3 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at the Box Office, by calling 941-263-6799 or online at www.VanWezel.org. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Virtual events include:

  • Digital Trivia via Trivia Hub Live – Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 7 p.m. ($10 per participant)
  • Magic Trick taught and performed by REZA – Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. (FREE)
  • Follow Me: The Virtual Detective, a virtual escape room experience! – Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 7 p.m. ($23 per participant)

In-person events include:

  • Cabaret by the Bay featuring the Shantel Norman Quartet – Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. (Tables are sold in increments of two or four guests per table. A table for two is $30 and a table for four is $60. Seating is very limited. Food and beverage by Mattison’s will available for an additional cost.)

The Van Wezel presents Digital Trivia via Trivia Hub Live! The perfect opportunity to “virtually” gather with your family and friends, make new friends or participate in a fun team-building exercise – Trivia Hub Live will offer a virtual trivia event for Van Wezel patrons with an opportunity to win a variety of prizes. Tickets for this event are $10 per person and can be reserved at www.VanWezel.org. Individuals can participate and be placed in teams. Groups or organizations interested in arranging tickets for four or more participants should make their reservations at least 48 hours prior to the game. Participants will work through trivia questions with their assigned groups in private Zoom “breakout rooms” throughout the game. The trivia game will accommodate up to 75 guests, and patrons are encouraged to sign up early! Dates and times for virtual trivia are Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 7 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to be an illusionist? Now is the perfect chance – and you can learn right in your own home! Perfect for the whole family, REZA teaches audiences a magic trick and answers questions along the way during a LIVE Zoom session. The event is FREE, and will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. Participants can sign up at www.VanWezel.org and will need two empty water bottles with a skinny lid. Limited “supply packs” will be available at the box office while supplies last. This event is in advance of REZA’s Sarasota debut at the Van Wezel on January 25, 2021. Single tickets for his 2021 performance, Edge of Illusion, are on sale now at www.VanWezel.org.

If you’re seeking a unique and interactive virtual adventure, you won’t want to miss Follow Me: The Virtual Detective on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.! An Escape Room meets True Detective in this high speed and brain boggling experience where YOU are the detective. During this action-packed hour, you’ll work with a team of sleuths to find your missing partner and solve a mystery in a race against the clock, while scouring the internet for clues. Tickets are $23. Details and participation requirements can be found at www.VanWezel.org

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall introduces Cabaret by the Bay, a series of intimate performances held in the Grand Foyer. The Shantel Norman Quartet headlines the performances on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m., and very limited seating is available. Pricing is $30 for a table of two guests and $60 for a table of four guests. Tables will be spaced out to ensure proper social distancing while patrons enjoy an evening of live music and a Sarasota sunset. See event page on the Van Wezel’s website for additional safety protocols. Drinks and light appetizers by Mattison’s at the Van Wezel will be available for purchase in advance and at the event. These items are not included in the price of the table reservation.
