The Venice Symphony Welcomes John Fischer to the Board of Trustees
The Venice Symphony announces the appointment of John Fischer to a three-year term to its Board of Trustees. Fischer is a Michigan native, who has been passionate about music since childhood and at 16 was performing on a vintage theatre pipe organ on weekends. After graduating with a degree in marketing from Michigan State University, he worked at the Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis. Fischer went on to invest in a commercial printing company and created marketing and fund-raising programs for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre and other organizations. He also served as Marketing Director for Hammell Music in Michigan.
After retiring, Fischer and his partner moved to Sarasota, in 2001, where they custom built a home to showcase their three grand pianos and pipe organ and host Artist Series Concerts’ Soiree series, and other musical performances. In addition to his leadership role with Artist Series Concerts, Fischer has served as treasurer of the Seminole District of the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, Sarasota Orchestra Friends, and the Sarasota Opera Guild. He is president of the Manasota Theatre Organ Society and served as treasurer of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. He is a former officer and board member of the Southwest Florida Association of Fundraising Professionals.
“We are delighted to have John join our board and share his vast experience and enthusiasm, especially during this very challenging year,” said Board of Trustees Chair Debbi Benedict. “He joins a dedicated Board of Trustees that is committed to The Venice Symphony’s work and mission.”
Fischer has been attending The Venice Symphony for several years and said, “I have been overwhelmed by the level of quality of the performances. I look forward to supporting the organization, and The Symphony’s marketing and development efforts and to attract more classical music lovers in Sarasota to Venice.”
Returning members of The Venice Symphony Board Trustees are Debbi Benedict (Chair) Maureen Bentley (secretary), David Chivas, Penny Corell, Barbara Freeman, Bob Hite, David Joyner, Floyd Juday (vice president), Steven Ledbetter, Casey Riley (Treasurer), Alicia King Robinson and Paul McCullough (emeritus).
