In celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is showcasing the destination’s continued commitment to arts and culture, despite COVID-19. Beginning in October, local partners will offer a range of special events to honor the area’s heritage and inspire creativity within the community. Events include the following:
- SCF Music Program and Bradenton Symphony Orchestra Performance: On October 8, the State College of Florida will hold its first music program of the season, “Stronger Together,” to celebrate the power of coming together and the strength of community during COVID-19. The concert will be live streamed on the SCF Music Facebook page to allow enjoyment while social distancing. On October 15, SCF Bradenton Symphony Orchestra will put on Symphony Espagnole,” a musical fiesta in honor of Spanish Heritage Month featuring an outstanding lineup of Latin/Spanish music.
- Cottonmouth Opens: Chef David Shiplett, owner of Birdrock Taco Shack, will open this Southern food spot in Bradenton’s Village of the Arts. Cottonmouth will begin welcoming guests in October to enjoy delicious Southern-inspired cuisine and take home a one-of-a-kind work of folk art, on display in the dining room.
- Village of the Arts Artwalk: Join Village of the Arts on November 7-8 for an Artwalk weekend all about the celebration of life, and the tradition of Día de los Muertos. The annual Festival of the Skeletons is celebrated to honor departed loved ones with a weekend of live music, amazing food and plenty of colorful art.
- Palmetto Art Center Workshop: PAC is supplying music, paints and canvases for a socially distanced-painting workshop on October 3, at which participants can view the facility’s collection of nostalgic Florida Highwaymen Landscapes and create their own, no experience needed!
- Tombstone Tour with Manatee Village Historical Park: Curious to learn about the fascinating history behind 1850 Manatee Burying Ground, the oldest public cemetery in Manatee County? From October 16 to November 1, take a free virtual “Tombstone Tour” by signing up on the museum’s website.
- Painting with Southern Atelier: Channel creativity from home with renowned Florida artists Charles Miano, Anthony Stokes and Anne Abgott, who will host several online demonstrations and painting classes throughout October.
- Exhibits and Lessons at ArtCenter Manatee: ArtCenter is offering multiple events to channel your inner artist. Upcoming events include an exhibit contest sponsored by Jess Jewelers called “Fishing for Diamonds” starting on October 13, as well as lessons on making adorable felted pumpkins and mat board earrings with local artists on October 9 and 23. Kids are also welcome to explore their artistic side with a selection of after school art sessions for students beginning October 13.
- Bradenton Area Film Festival: On November 14, experience an outdoor movie night at Holmes Beach, Manatee Performing Arts Center, Premier Sports Campus or Manatee River. A different movie will be featured on the big screen at each location, so attendees can pick their favorite film and reserve a spot ahead of time for a film under the stars.
