Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to Host Suncoast Remake Learning Days
November 15, 2021 – Sarasota
The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is bringing the globally recognized Remake Learning Days program to our region in 2022. Beginning Friday, April 29 and running through Sunday, May 8, Suncoast Remake Learning Days is a 10-day festival that will feature innovative experiences and opportunities for youth to develop their sense of creativity, perseverance and curiosity.
Remake Learning Days Across America (RLDAA) events take place in communities nationwide. During Remake Learning Days, a variety of organizations — such as schools, museums, libraries, after school organizations, early child care centers, universities, media centers, tech startups and more — open their doors to welcome families as well as travel into neighborhoods to host hands-on, relevant and engaging educational experiences for youth of all ages (pre-K through high school) and their families, caregivers and educators. Global education nonprofit HundrED recently recognized Remake Learning Days Across America as one of the world’s brightest innovations in K-12 education. Through its engagement in the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, the four-county region of Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee and Sarasota counties is one of 16 communities invited to participate in this national program with the generous support of The Patterson Foundation.
“As our world grows ever more connected, we are discovering new opportunities to apply programs and concepts proven to foster a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom,” said Beth Duda, director of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading for The Patterson Foundation. “Suncoast Remake Learning Days is an opportunity for our region to invest its collective assets toward better outcomes for children and families during 10 days of fun, engaging events.”
Suncoast Remake Learning Days events will be organized by learning themes, including the arts, maker spaces, outdoor learning, science, technology and youth voice. In addition, there will be professional-development opportunities for school, out-of-school, child care and non-traditional educators. Through The Patterson Foundation’s support, these multi-generational, hands-on learning experiences will be robust, free, accessible and open to the public.
