Selby Foundation Awards $500,000+ in Capital Grants

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation approved $563,853 in grants to strengthen 14 local nonprofits with technology, equipment, and building renovations.

Together with recently awarded funds to help organizations recover from Hurricane Milton damage, Selby Foundation has granted more than $1,062,000 to nonprofits since October.

Selected capital grants focus on strengthening human services, education, arts, and the environment.

Human Services

• All Faiths Food Bank- $100,000 toward a new integrated software system building efficiencies into complex logistics and operations.
• Centerstone- $60,000 toward a safe parking area for the organization’s new community resource center in Manatee County’s Samoset neighborhood.
• Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida- $21,520 for security systems at three campuses and a new ice making system at its flagship Camp Honi Hanta.
• Jewish Family & Children’s Service- $100,000 toward building improvements to enhance program and office spaces.
• Resurrection House- $43,441 to reconfigure space for enhanced programs helping unhoused people move to greater independence.
• Salvation Army of Sarasota County- $20,000 towards new furniture for clients receiving comprehensive residential case management at the Center for Hope.
• SOLVE Maternity Homes- $35,000 for renovations to a home providing residential and programmatic support for pregnant women in Bradenton.
• Tidewell Foundation- $25,000 for new hospital beds for hospice patients and respite services in the Arcadia care center.

Education

• UnidosNow- $9,500 for new laptops for student use and staff supporting post-secondary education for Hispanic/Latino youth.

Arts

• The Woman’s Exchange- $25,000 toward a new parking lot for safe patronage of the resale store that supports arts organizations and scholarships for youth pursuing arts.
• Urbanite Theatre- $28,742 for new seating and tools enhancing performances at the black box space.
• Visual Arts Center- $25,000 to support the Charlotte County-based organization for internal building improvements including new acoustic panels and refreshed paint.
• Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe- $45,650 for portable sound equipment to support traveling shows reaching diverse audiences.

Environment

• Mote Marine Laboratory- $25,000 toward renovations for science researcher housing at Mote Aquaculture Park.

In addition to the capital grants, the board approved $25,000 toward the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Season of Sharing fund in celebration of the initiative’s 25^th anniversary.
