Second Heart Homes Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received a $20,000 grant from Church of the Redeemer. The funds will be used to repair and refurbish two recently purchased duplexes that will provide housing, stability and critical support services to 12 homeless women with mental health issues.
Second Heart Homes Inc. is a fast-growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Sarasota that helps homeless adults with mental illness secure housing and become self-sufficient. The organization provides permanent and transitional homes, daily supportive services and skill-building workshops tailored to clients’ individual needs.
“We are grateful for Church of the Redeemer’s generous support,” said Megan Howell, founder and executive director of Second Heart Homes. “Roofing, flooring, plumbing, electrical and other repairs are needed to bring the duplexes up to our gold-star standards so that we can begin taking in women. This grant, and the extension of friendship, is such a wonderful surprise.”
“Church of the Redeemer is committed to the work of meeting human needs and alleviating suffering in our communities,” said The Rev. David Svihel, clergy representative for the church’s Mission and Outreach Committee.
“We are excited to support Second Heart Homes because they are working hard to address unmet housing and mental-health support needs for Sarasota’s homeless women, whom number more than 200 today.”
Founded in 1904, Church of the Redeemer is a growing parish of 2,600 members in the heart of downtown Sarasota. The church is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. Redeemer regularly supports nonprofits in Sarasota and around the world.
