Season Social: Mattison’s Restaurants and Catering

Chef Paul Mattison has become a recognized name in the Sarasota area with three iconic restaurants and a catering business that are among the most popular for local dining and special events. Since 2001, Mattison’s has provided premiere catering from Sarasota to Tampa. Mattison’s City Grille opened in 2002 in the heart of downtown Sarasota, Mattison’s Forty-One made its debut in 2007 in south Sarasota, and Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille rounded out the group in 2017 in Bradenton on the beautiful Riverwalk. 

City Grille and Riverwalk Grille both offer casual al fresco atmospheres with live music, award-winning happy hours, and covered, open air dining for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. The recently renovated Forty-One provides a beautiful and elegant, yet relaxed experience for lunch and dinner plus a private event space for special events or corporate functions. 

Chef Paul grew up in upstate New York, where he was inspired to learn cooking and gardening from his Italian grandmother. She taught him to make several dishes, like the Artichokes Esther, that appear on his menus for both the restaurants and at catered events.

He began his culinary career at age 15 and graduated  with honors from The Culinary Institute of America. From there, Chef Paul went on to Aspen, CO to refine his skills at the Zagat-celebrated Pinon’s restaurant. In 1991, he relocated to Sarasota as the executive chef of the Summerhouse Restaurant.
