State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will offer free boot camps to help prepare students for required classes in math and writing, and to assist them with improving reading skills. The free boot camps will be offered at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. and SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.
The math boot camp will help prepare students for Intermediate Algebra, Topics in Mathematics, Liberal Arts Math, Pathways to Statistics, Elementary Algebra Development, or Pre-College Math Modules. The writing boot camp is designed to prepare students for college-level writing. The writing boot camp also will introduce students to SCF’s Writing Center and additional helpful resources. The reading boot camp will benefit students entering college for the first time who have not previously had experience reading collegiate textbooks.
The math boot camp will be held from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday, July 29 through Thursday, Aug 1. The reading and writing boot camps will take place on weekdays beginning Monday, Aug. 5 through Wednesday, Aug. 14. The reading boot camp will run 8:30-10:30 a.m. and the writing boot camp will run 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Students are encouraged to attend the reading boot camp in the morning, bring a lunch, and stay for the writing boot camp.
