State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) received a generous donation of $40,000 from the Ralph S. French Charitable Foundation Trust to assist SCF’s Nursing Center of Excellence in purchasing a state-of-the-art neonatal simulator.

The students in SCF’s Associate in Science in nursing program will all benefit from this charitable gift since they are trained on the neonatal simulator. These animatronic mannequins simulate real-time, lifelike interactions with a newborn, and include programmable mouth, eye and limb movements, dynamic lung function with ventilator support, heart and lung sounds and palpable pulses – complete with infusion and blood sampling scenarios.

“SCF is extraordinarily grateful for the support from the French Foundation as the nursing program has pivoted to integrate many on-campus instructional modalities during the pandemic,” said Dr. Tammy Sawmelle, assistant dean of nursing programs at SCF. “The neonatal simulator allows for safe instruction while building skill sets that are immediately transferable to the workforce.”

The Ralph S. French Charitable Foundation Trust has donated more than $100,000 since 2016 in support of SCF’s vision of being the region’s first choice for innovative, responsive quality education, workforce training and community partnership.
