State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) celebrated those who contributed to the construction of the new Studio for the Performing Arts with a donor appreciation event on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The evening event included an introduction from SCF Foundation Board of Directors President Dorothy Korszen and a keynote speech by SCF President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld.
“While I continue to work and strategize with the Foundation, I see how invaluable our community members are – your generosity is paramount to our success,” said Korszen.
Probstfeld remarked, “This beautiful space was made possible entirely through local funding and is emblematic of our long history of commitment to the arts. The SCF Neel Performing Arts Center is one of the oldest and most cherished buildings on our campus, and the new Studio for the Performing Arts is the perfect complementary facility to support our music and theatre programs in the decades ahead.”
The evening also involved self-guided tours of the Studio, entertainment from SCF’s Presidential String Quartet, SCF Presidential Jazz Ensemble, performers from the college’s upcoming production of the Tony-award winning musical “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” and other SCF music students.
The new building is connected to the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center. A new gathering space, in honor of and made possible by former SCF President Dr. Sarah H. Pappas and Dr. Probstfeld, the Madam Presidents’ Courtyard, is situated between the two buildings. The college and surrounding community will benefit from the Studio, as it will be used by community ensembles, and additional practice rooms will allow for expanded teaching opportunities for full-time students, part-time students and lifelong learners.
