Sarasota Students Partner with Aviation Company for Bahamas Relief

By  |

Students and staff at Sarasota Military Academy, a local, public charter school, have partnered with Gold Aviation Services, a private luxury jet and aircraft carrier, to supply relief to the people in the Bahamas affected by the devastation from Hurricane Dorian.

Donated items, accepted at both the Sarasota Military Academy’s high school campus (located at 801 N. Orange Avenue in Sarasota), and the Prep middle school campus (located at 3101 Bethel Lane in Sarasota), will be delivered to the company and flown to Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbor, with flights beginning Thursday, September 5, 2019.

A full list of suggested items and supplies can be found by visiting the Gold Aviation Services Facebook page and include basic hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, medical supplies including antibacterial ointment, gauze/tape, aspirin and Ibuprofen and miscellaneous items such as canned goods and non-perishables, manual can openers, heavy-duty trash bags and face/duct masks.

The partnership was established through SMA-SFC Kathy Simon, who works at the SMA Prep campus, as her brother-in-law, Leonard Goldberg, is the CEO/ Owner of Gold Aviation Services. Simon brought the efforts to the attention of the SMA staff and students through the SMA Interact Clubs at both campuses, led by SMA-MAJ Carol Pelletier and SMA-CPT Lorene Bauck, who decided to get involved immediately. Simon and her husband will be delivering the items to Gold Aviation Services as donations and supplies are received.

Monetary donations can be provided through the organization at https://www.paypal.me/wwfly. The company will also be collecting supplies at the Fort Lauderdale Airport, with additional locations and details to be announced through the company’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/goldaviation/. Gold Aviation Services is also partnering with the Mission Resolve Foundation to support recovery and relief efforts by land, sea and air.
