Sarasota Orchestra Season Opens with Discover Beethoven’s Fifth

Discoveries Beethoven Series: Discover Beethoven’s Fifth The first concert of the Sarasota Orchestra season will present a program that celebration 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth.
 
Guest conductor Marcelo Lehninger will lead the Orchestra in a program featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Rossini= 2s Overture to L’Italiana in Algeri.
 
Brazilian-born Marcelo Lehninger is in his third year as Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony. In 2018, he brought the orchestra to Carnegie Hall, its first performance at the famed venue in thirteen years. He previously served as Music Director of the New West Symphony in Los Angeles, for which the League of American Orchestras awarded him the Helen H. Thompson Award for Emerging Music Directors. After a very successful two-year tenure as Assistant Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra that included stepping in for James Levine on short notice in Boston and on tour at Carnegie Hall, Marcelo served as Associate Conductor for an additional three years.
 
The concert also features Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Pianist Drew Petersen.
 
Acclaimed 25-year-old American pianist Drew Petersen is a sought-after soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Winner of a 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, the 2017 American Pianists Awards and the Christel DeHaan Fellow of the American Pianists Association, and also Artist-In-Residence at the University of Indianapolis, he has been praised for his commanding and poetic performances.
