Sarasota Orchestra Announces Full 2019 – 2020 Season
Sarasota Orchestra announces the complete 2019 – 2020 season, featuring many exciting musical experiences as nine guest conductors lead this season of classical programs that coincide with the 250-year celebration of Beethoven’s birth.
The 2019 – 2020 season is composed of five concert series.
Masterworks Series: Highlights of the Masterworks series include performances featuring renowned guest artists including pianists Jeremy Denk and Shai Wosner, and world-renowned violinist Sarah Chang. All Masterworks concerts will be conducted by guest conductors from across America and across the globe. Together with their impressive soloists, each of these guest conductors selected a program of great masterworks. Masterworks concerts take place at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and Neel Performing Arts Center.
Pops Series: This upcoming season for Pops will highlight music from the stage and screen. Concert experiences include a showing of Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II, My Favorite Things featuring vocalist Maria Wirries, and American Playlist with Storm Large and Branford Marsalis, a collection of vintage Broadway and the Great American Songbook music with a modern twist.
Chamber Series: The eight-concert Chamber Series will explore both classic and new repertoire, from Beethoven to Jim Parker, showcasing the musicians of Sarasota Orchestra.
Great Escapes Series: The six-concert series includes Pops and light classics with commentary by the conductor. Great Escapes concerts will be conducted by Jacomo Bairos, Christopher Confessore, Steven Jarvi, Michelle Merrill and Enrico Lopez-Yañez
Discover Beethoven Series: The Sarasota Orchestra will present a two-program series celebrating the master composer Ludwig van Beethoven on the 250-year anniversary of his birth. This revised format for the Discoveries series will bookend the Masterworks series and includes two evening performances.
Special Event: A special mid-season concert will explore the work of Beethoven. Sarasota Music Festival Music Director, Jeffrey Kahane, will present insights and musical examples that put Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, the “heroic” symphony, into 21st century context. A performance of the full symphony completes the concert
