Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s In the Round Features Summer Dance Students

This summer, Sarasota Contemporary Dance will be filled with many opportunities for the community to experience live performances during our Summer Intensive Programs. All performances will be at our home studio with In-Person and Virtual Streaming available. Each summer intensive will be debuting unique opportunities to the Sarasota community, displaying a range of dance works most never seen before in its in-begging stages.
In The Round is an opportunity for selected choreographers chosen from across the country to set a work in progress during SCD’s Summer Intensive. The choreographers are given feedback during the performance from audience members using a modified version inspired by the Liz Lerman Critical Response Process (CRP).
Featured Choreographers:
Jeanne-Marie Branche is a graduate of the University of Tampa (UT) with a B.A. in Dance and a B.A. in Communication. She received her B.A. in Dance under current program director, Susannah LeMarquand and former assistant director, Michael Crotty. During her undergraduate years at UT, Jeanne-Marie had the opportunity to perform works by Maddie Kurtz, Carley Ragsdale, Rebecca Corsino, Emily Curry, Missy Wietholter, and Susannah LeMarquand. She also had the privilege of working with multiple artists in masterclasses such as Jon Lehrer Dance Company and Commercial Dance Intensive (CDI) directed by Casey & Cassidy Noblet (2017). She currently resides in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and is the Founder/CEO of Relevé Marketing- a digital marketing and social media agency for dance. Aside from her business, Jeanne-Marie teaches contemporary classes locally in Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter, FL. She has choreographed five original pieces during her time at UT and is excited to bring another piece to life this Summer with Sarasota Contemporary Dance!
Madeleine Paige Wilcox is a professional dancer and choreographer with years dance training experience in ballet, modern dance, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and improvisation. Madeleine received early rigorous dance training from the Louisville Ballet School in Louisville, Kentucky and has received scholarships to train with a variety of programs including Cincinnati Ballet, Kirov Academy of Ballet, Next Generation Ballet, Carolina Civic Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Florida State University, and the University of South Florida.
Madeleine has choreographic experience ranging from choreographed work that was premiered at the Southeast Regional Ballet Association Emerging Choreographers Showcase in North Carolina at the 2015 Regional Dance America Festival, to just recently premiering her newest choreographed solo work at the 2023 BFA Showcase at the University of South Florida School of Theatre and Dance. She centers her choreography on a contemporary style of movement that utilizes ballet and modern dance techniques to sharpen the refined flow of her phrase work.
Elizabeth Zuccaro, a professional dancer and choreographer, began her early dance training at Performance Edge 2 School of Dance in Boca Raton, Florida. She attended Bak Middle School of the Arts and graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos, Jr. High School of the Arts in 2019 as a dance major focusing on ballet and modern. Elizabeth continued to develop her artistic interests at Florida State University (FSU), receiving her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. In addition, Zuccaro is earning her MA in the Dance Sciences, at Florida State University, under the mentorship of Dr. Tom Welsh. Elizabeth worked with notables such as Ailey II Artistic Director Troy Powell; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre’s Solomon Dumas; Fosse Estate’s Lloyd Culbreath; Hubbard Street Dance’s Krista Ellensohn, as well as Nancy Lushing ton, John Thomas Marzari, and Salim Gawloos. While at FSU School of Dance, Zuccaro studied with and performed works by artists such as Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Founder of Urban Bush Women, Kara Wilkes, Gwen Welliver, Timothy Glenn, Donna Uchizono, and more.
June 16th 7:00 p.m. In the Round Performance will feature pieces from our rising choreographers who have been chosen to set their work on our summer intensive participants.
In The Round is an opportunity for rising choreographers from Sarasota Contemporary Dance as well as selected choreographers chosen from across the country by SCD’s Artistic Staff to set a work in progress during the Summer Intensive. The choreographers are given feedback during the performance from audience members using a modified version inspired by the Liz Lerman Critical Response Process (CRP), led by our Artistic Director, Leymis Bolaños Wilmott.
