Sarasota Contemporary Dance Presents DANCE MAKERS Jan 21 – 24

For the first time, Sarasota Contemporary Dance is hosting its own professional scale production in its home studio in the Rosemary Square District. Recently outfitted with live streaming capabilities by Integrated Media Productions, including four multi-lensed cameras and professional switchboard and streaming software, Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s studio will ring in the new year with its 2021 showcase of Dance Makers. The four performances of Dance Makers will be live streamed January 22-24, and can be purchased exclusively for virtual viewing now. Dance Makers was made possible by producing sponsor Sam Alfstad.

Highlighting the history of Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s groundbreaking creative partnerships, Dance Makers brings the work of nationally acclaimed choreographers to Sarasota: Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves of Orange Grove Dance (Washington, D.C.), Douglas Gillespie (New York, New York), and local musician Mark Dancigers is back with an electrifying duet with Artistic Director Leymis Bolaños Wilmott. Together, the three works create a bold and thought provoking evening of performance.

“It’s truly a blessing that we have our own studio to perform from,” comments Bolaños Wilmott. “There is an incredible range of artistic voices involved in this performance that I’m excited to showcase from the company’s home. This production is incredibly significant to me, especially considering the fact that two of the pieces were entirely choreographed over Zoom, something none of us have ever done before for a professional production. Not only did we defy the odds of presenting and creating work so far during a pandemic, but we’re able to continue bringing in nationally recognized choreographers for Dance Makers and still create works that are emotional and provocative.” 

The performances will all be live streamed to SCD’s Digital Theater on their website Friday, January 22 – Sunday, January 24. Performance times are 7:30pm Friday, Saturday at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and on Sunday at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
