Sarasota Contemporary Dance Kicks Off In-Studio Series

Sarasota Contemporary Dance is hosting its first In-Studio Performance of the 2022 – 2023 season by welcoming local poet, Jennifer Nuesi, for an evening with THINGS.

Jennifer Nuesi will dive into a new poetry collection titled, THINGS, where love, loss, heartbreak, and divinity of self, are explored in geometric shapes and spaces. In this exhibition of physical elements of light and dark, along with poetry recitations, we journey through all the senses to experience visual poetry that focuses on Anxiety and its insidious methods.

“To have a prestigious venue such as SCD, believe in me and my work, was such a surreal moment for me,” says Jennifer. “As a new author, you pray and hope that someone, somewhere, will see the magic you see in your work and I am grateful SCD heard the call!”

About Jennifer Nuesi

Jennifer or Penofthepeople, a moniker that has stuck since she began writing, is a new writer with an old soul. Sometimes, she writes her personal stories of grief, loss, and discovery, while other times, it is a story that needs to be told. “THINGS” is her first published work. Released in December of 2021, it is a visual poetry collection to show how anxiety is an insidious vapor that engulfs our senses and suffocates all logic. Anxiety tends to make us replay events over and over and take us back to the past while we’re facing forward.

Though she is a new author, her work has made an impact within the writing communities. She has been featured on The Well, The Dumping Grounds, the Author Show, 105 Publishing, and the ArtsXchange in Georgia. “THINGS” has hit Top 100 on Amazon in the categories of Poetry by Women, Love Poems, Women’s Poetry, and Top 100 on Kindle with a strong presence on the Top 100 list in Audible within her genre. In addition, THINGS is currently circulating within the Sarasota Country Library System.

The work she creates is set to give a voice to those feelings that might not have the power of speech, now able to convey their sentiments. She hopes to bring strength and elegance to the raw elements inside us all.
