Sarasota Contemporary Dance Announces Its 19th Season

Sarasota Contemporary Dance is launching its 2024-2025 19th Mainstage Season, SHINE a season of captivating performances that illuminate the stage with unparalleled artistry. SCD is excited to be back in the theater and has expanded their subscriptions to include SCD’s In-Studio Series. 

The season includes four Main Stage performances:

  • SCD + The Barker Project: Thursday, December 5- Sunday, December 8, 2024
  • SCD + Natalie Helm Bluegrass Band: Thursday, January 16- Sunday, January 19, 2025
  • Dance Makers: Thursday, March 13 – Sunday, March 16, 2025
  • Voices-Rising Choreographers: Thursday, May 1 – Sunday, May 4, 2025

All Main Stage performances are held at the Jane B. Cook Theater at the FSU Center for Performing Arts. Each performance starts at 7:00 PM Thursday – Saturday, with a 3:00 PM matinee on Sundays. Additionally, SCD offers Virtual Ticket options for each production.

We are kicking off our 19th season with a dazzling collaboration led by bassist Johnnie Barker and his assembled array of talented musicians. This production will be rooted in jazz, blending Funk, Rock, Blues & Gospel into a splendid sound and dance gumbo.

Join us as we dive into principal cellist of the Sarasota Orchestra, Natalie Helm’s Kentucky roots alongside her collective group of star musicians radiating the beauty of the Midwest. Promises to be a sound and movement experience that will glisten the stage.

A season favorite, audiences new and old are always enlightened by this contemporary dance tapestry featuring works by nationally known choreographers. This year’s lineup is Kristin O’ Neal, Gregory Catellier, Bliss Kohlmyer, Rosanna Tavarez, and Sarasota’s Tania Vergara Perez.

To close our 19th season “SHINE” this performance allows for the next generation of choreographers and SCDE (Sarasota Contemporary Dance Ensemble), our training company, to sparkle on the main stage alongside SCD Company. These new works are hand-picked by SCD’s Artistic Director, Leymis Bolaños Wilmott from our 2024 Summer Intensives.

In-Studio Series

Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s In-Studio Series is an incubation platform for artists at varying stages in their careers. Conceived by Artistic Director Leymis Bolaños Wilmott in 2018 and led by Production Lead Monessa Salley, this program provides creators with a nurturing and formative artistic opportunity. Artists receive access to SCD’s home studio and its resources. Whether they are showing a work-in-progress or adding the final touches to a developed work, the residency culminates in a live performance followed by a Q&A with the featured artist.
