The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) has been awarded a $4,400 grant sponsored by The Plantation Community Foundation of Venice, Florida to support CPC’s Personal Safety and Community Awareness Program (PSCA) through the use of new technology and professional video.

The PSCA program works to educate and empower children and the adults who care for them in an effort to eliminate child abuse. The Personal Safety Team leads developmentally appropriate personal safety workshops for children of all ages and provides essential education to adults who care for children. Certain technologies have become crucial within these lessons, particularly the Internet Safety workshop, and the need for video lessons has increased drastically due to the coronavirus. The funding of this grant will directly support these needs and enable the nonprofit to educate and protect more individuals in the community.

The Plantation Community Foundation has long supported the programs of the Child Protection Center, including funding therapy through the Sexual Abuse Treatment Program as well as funding medical examinations and forensic interviews through the Child Protection Team. The Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life of South Sarasota County residents and responded to the pandemic by supporting organizations that have a direct impact on the health and nutrition of those in our community most in need.

The Child Protection Center’s mission is the Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment of Child Abuse. CPC has been serving Sarasota & DeSoto Counties since 1980. In Fiscal Year 2019-2020, PSCA reached 65,627 participants. Over 98% of children and adult participants demonstrated an increase in knowledge of child maltreatment and/or could identify how to protect themselves after attending a PSCA workshop.
