October 5, 2022 – Sarasota
With so many in the region affected by the devastating effects of Hurricane Ian, the Downtown Improvement District and its Fresh Fridays organizers have announced the addition of All Faiths Food Bank (AFFB) to this week’s October 7th event, taking place on State Street from 7-10 p.m.
AFFB will have a representative on-site to accept monetary cash or digital donations at the event which will go towards their relief efforts around Southwest Florida. AFFB partners with Feeding Florida and the Dept. of Emergency Management’s mass feeding team to support all 67 counties in the state. A monetary donation allows the organization to leverage its nonprofit status and bulk buying power to stretch donated dollars significantly further than the average consumer can at a grocery store.
“We are thrilled and grateful to be invited to participate in and be the beneficiaries of this Fresh Fridays event,” says All Faiths Food Bank CEO Sandra Frank. “Our community has always given generously in times of crisis and we are confident the same will be true now, especially considering that our area was in the cross-hairs before Hurricane Ian turned further south and devastated communities there.”
In addition, guests are encouraged to visit a downtown merchants, restaurants or bars before or after the event to support many of the local establishments whose livelihoods were affected by the storm. “Our goal is to reunite friends and neighbors in our community and provide an opportunity to directly aid in hurricane relief,” said Joseph Grano, president of Next-Mark and event organizer.
Inspiration music will be performed by former American Idol finalist Jonathan Cortez, while food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event from Brick’s Smoked Meats, Art Ovation Hotel, and State Street Eating House + Cocktails. Ample parking is available in the State Street parking garage or on-street in the surrounding area. Donate here on behalf of Fresh Fridays.
