New Gallery Opens in Rosemary District
Downtown Sarasota’s newest hotspot, Lipstick Lex Gallery, will open its doors to the public for the first time on Saturday, March 14. Located in the heart of the Rosemary District, Sarasota-based artist, Alexis Fraser, aka Lipstick Lex, plans to bring a vibrant new approach to the area’s burgeoning art scene. The artist is anything but traditional, and the scope of programming within the gallery space will follow suit.
“I am a lipstick artist. This means that lipstick is my primary medium. I paint with lipstick; I draw with lipstick; I utilize stencils with lipstick; and most interestingly, I kiss with lipstick! My work embodies everything I believe in: love, self-love, personal empowerment, beauty, fun, and positive vibes all around,” says Fraser.
Over the past year, the artist has appeared on shows including Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, and Pickler and Ben. With pieces featuring iconic figures like Frida Kahlo, Marilyn Monroe, Maya Angelou, Sir Elton John, Ellen DeGeneres, Audrey Hepburn, Lady Gaga, and a multitude of others, her work has taken her everywhere from LA to Tokyo to Hong Kong and London.
Lex’s mission with the new space is to take the highbrow notion out of the words “art gallery,” and create an inviting space for locals and visitors alike. On weekdays, guests can pop in and visit the artist in her studio. On weekends, the gallery will come alive featuring everything from live music and pop-up markets, to culinary, fashion, and of course, signature art events. The gallery has already posted several dates on their website where the community can book workshops and create art in tandem with the artist herself. Private events and venue rentals will also be available following opening weekend.
Lipstick Lex Gallery is a space that Fraser has been manifesting for the better part of her adult life. She adds, “At 35 years old, the space that I once only dreamed of has finally become a reality. I am proud to have this urban contemporary space to create my art, properly showcase and sell my work, host a variety of events for the Sarasota community, and more! The Rosemary District here in downtown Sarasota is beautifully transforming into the new hotspot in town, and I’m thrilled to be here, offering the community a fresh splash of color and creativity that many folks haven’t seen before!”
The gallery will operate Tuesday through Thursday from 9A – 5P, Friday and Saturday from 9A – 9P, and will be closed Sunday and Monday. Hours are subject to change based on special events.
Lipstick Lex Gallery is located at 1419 5th Street, Unit A, in Sarasota. Visit www.lipsticklex.com/tickets for more information.
