New College of Florida Receives Record Funding from Florida Legislature
May 3, 2023 – Bradenton
Sarasota,Fla.– New College of Florida has received a record level of funding in the Florida Legislature’s 2023-24 General Appropriations Act (GAA), bringing the total new funding received in the last 90 days to $50 million.
In total, in the GAA, New College received $10 million in additional recurring funding, $15 million in nonrecurring funding, $5.8 million for renovations to the Hamilton Classroom Building Remodeling,
$3.5 million in renovations for the Pritzker Marine Biology Research Center. This is in addition to the
$15 million in funding authorized by the legislative budget commission previously, bringing the total funding in 90 days to nearly $50 million.
“For the first time in nearly 20 years, the state has appropriated a historic amount of funding to New College of Florida,” said Interim President Richard Corcoran. “This is in stark contrast to the last few years when the legislature was considering merging the college because of its lack of performance.”
“Over the next several years, we will continue to bring in funding in order to create a beautiful, unrivaled and preeminent public university whose educational mission will be to provide students with the best liberal arts education in the country,” continued Interim President Corcoran.
“It is a new day at New College of Florida, and with this record funding – the likes of which we have not seen in 20 years or more – we are on our way to becoming the No. 1 classical liberal arts college in the country,” said Interim President Corcoran. “I want to continue to thank Governor DeSantis and our legislative partners for recognizing the opportunity we have and providing this funding in the 2023-24 budget.”
Founded in Sarasota in 1960, New College of Florida was named the No. 5 Public National Liberal Arts College from U.S. News & World Report in 2023 and is the Honors College of Florida. New College provides students with a highly individualized education that combines academic excellence with career preparation experiences. New College offers more than 50 undergraduate majors in arts, humanities and sciences; a master’s degree program in applied data science; and certificates in technology, finance, and
