As our hospitality industry heals in the wake of disruptive storms, Visit Sarasota County (VSC) and community partners are encouraging local businesses to share how they’re ready to welcome residents and visitors alike through a new campaign, “Support the 941.”
“In times like these, it’s very important that those who are here, such as residents, evacuees, and relief workers, know about what is available to safely see, do, and experience,” said Erin Duggan, President and CEO of Visit Sarasota County. “The hotels, restaurants, and attractions that can currently accommodate need the patronage.”
Locals are encouraged to post about their experiences on social media using #SupportThe941. VSC will then promote this content across its own channels to showcase the recovery and vitality of our destination.
The established local messaging of “Fun in the 941” will now be “Support the 941” across the organization’s more than 500 partners and beyond. A signature aspect of the campaign is that all businesses – regardless of their affiliation with VSC – are invited to participate. This shift is intended to encourage and remind locals and visitors how important it is to support the businesses that can welcome patrons now.
The recovery of our hospitality industry is vital to strengthening the quality of life in our region. In 2023, the economic impact of tourism totaled $4.2 billion thanks to more than 3 million visitors. These visitors helped sustain 35,000 jobs, resulting in $978 million more in employee wages. The #SupportThe941 campaign aims to catalyze tourism from locals, thereby sustaining and enriching economic opportunity in Sarasota County.
