Music Compound Presents Navigating Your College Career
April 9, 2021 – Sarasota
Particularly in a region so rich with arts opportunities, there are a number of students who may be considering future study of or even a career in music. For area high school juniors and seniors who are considering a music degree, local music school Music Compound is offering a workshop – with live and virtual options – that will offer great insight into a student’s potential college path.
On consecutive Saturdays, April 17 from 10 a.m.-noon and April 24 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., the Navigating Your College Career workshop will address: degree options that are available, such as Classical, Modern and Education as well as best bets for someone interested in working within the industry; audition requirements for each college; audition preparation; networking and follow-up tips; and more. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet recent college graduates as well as industry leaders.
Music Compound owner Jenny Compound – who attended high school locally, at Cardinal Mooney – will participate on a panel with other leaders in the field. Also scheduled to present is Jill Polk, a Cardinal Mooney (2015) and Belmont University graduate (2019). Polk studied Commercial Voice-Music Business and currently works as a licensing agent for SESAC.
“Too many students don’t understand that you don’t have to be on stage, front and center, to be successful in the music business – the industry offers a variety of careers that pay well and offer you the opportunity to do what you love,” said Townsend. “Hopefully, participants in this workshop will better understand their options – and the best pathways to get there, through their study in college – as they consider how to reach their musical dreams.”
The full schedule for the workshop can be found on Music Compound’s website: musiccompound.com. Cost is $60/both sessions, $40/single session; Music Compound members save $10. Attendance is limited to 30 and CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure participant and presenter safety; virtual option is available as well.
