Millennial Group Announces Guest Speaker for Environment Event
Transform 2045 will meet to engage and discuss Environment in Transportation at their free event on Tuesday, July 23 at Anna Maria Oyster Bar’s landside location. Special guest speaker, Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant, will be present to interact with the millennials shaping transportation in our region, as well as to discuss Palmetto’s living seawall project.
Transform 2045 is the community activation group of regional influencers under the age of 45 with a shared passion for future development and they gather, engage, discuss, survey and provide feedback on our community’s transportation model for tomorrow. The millennial group was activated by the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to shape the future of transportation in our communities into the year 2045 for all generations to come.
Event attendees will have their chance at city planning, where they will work together to build a city lot plan from an environmentalist, local agency, and/or developer perspective. One group with the best lot will be chosen to win the door prize at the event. The MPO will be addressing the group about onsite and offsite mitigation banks, plus show visuals such as a map of our existing wetlands and critical habitats, and much more.
“We are excited to see the Mayor come out for our July event. Not just to engage with our group but to also call to attention the importance of our LRTP survey. It’s critical we hear from as many people in the community as possible for future planning to move forward,” said Corinne Tucker, Public Involvement Coordinator for MPO.
The MPO has also recently been seen on ABC 7 Suncoast News, and in SRQ and Sarasota Magazines. Transform 2045’s June meeting was themed Technology in Transportation and was hosted by Geckos Grill & Pub on Hillview St. Attendees came to learn what the MPO is doing to prioritize technology in transportation and how it can improve safety, among other things. Commute Connector shared their newly launched app, which primarily focuses on the commute to work trip for locals with an incentivizing platform structure to keep users engaged.
Transform 2045 has limited open spaces to join the group for those interested in becoming a leading voice within the movement.
