Meet the Artist: Judith Levine

July 2023—Judith Levine attended Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities and earned a B.A. in art and art education. She earned an M.A. in Visual Arts from Montclair State University, New Jersey where she was on the art education faculty. A long time arts educator, she is an active proponent of the importance of arts education programming. She was an art educator and district art supervisor in Parsippany, N.J. and was awarded Art Educator of the Year locally and statewide.

Judy was Coordinator of Teacher Professional Development at Liberty Science Center, Jersey City, N.J. Her work included planning workshops, engaging the presenters and initiating a lecture series on Cutting Edge Science. Judith also wrote and presented science and arts integrated programming over video conferencing technology.

Judith is a creative and skilled photographer and was the recipient of several grants to travel, study, and photograph the art of Tibet, West Africa, Egypt and Indonesia.

In Florida, Judy founded AFTA – Association of Florida Teaching Artists, a non-profit organization that places teaching artists in schools, recreation centers and community venues. Still actively teaching herself, Judy is currently teaching with the Sarasota County Libraries and the Ringling College Continuing Studies OLLI Program. She leads exciting art classes for all ages and skill levels, introducing them to many mediums. Her body of artwork is diverse – from beautiful jewelry (some with handmade beads) to collage, printmaking, assemblage, photography and more. You can often find Judy leading Sarasota Public Walking Tours, showing off all the incredible public art Sarasota has to offer. She creates her work in two studio locations – at Creative Liberties Art Studios and Gallery at 901-B Apricot Avenue and at The Studios at 5694 Derek Avenue.
