James Dana Kondrup, M.D., with more than 20 years of experience in performing minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) and training medical professionals worldwide on MIGS techniques, has joined the staff at Gulf Coast Medical Group Women’s Health & Wellness in Venice. He will perform MIGS procedures at Venice Regional Bayfront Health.
Dr. Kondrup is a board-certified surgeon in obstetrics and gynecology and is accredited in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) by the Accreditation Council of Gynecologic Endoscopy. Prior to locating in Venice, he focused on MIS and fertility in private and group practice in New York state since 1992. He previously was chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, where he established the MIS program and da Vinci surgical robotics program.
Dr. Kondrup has trained hundreds of surgeons and medical residents worldwide in the art of minimally invasive surgery, including performing surgery before large audiences. He has published extensively in the field of MIGS and has helped to develop training videos used in the field.
He has also served as an assistant clinical professor at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Family Practice department in Binghamton.
Dr. Kondrup received his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. As there were no fellowships in the MIGS specialty at that time, he trained with the pioneers of MIGS techniques and performed the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in New York State in 1992.
