La Musica International Chamber Music Festival Cancels Its 35th Season
February 24, 2021 – Sarasota
La Musica International Chamber Music Festival regretfully announces the cancellation of its 2021 season, which was scheduled to take place in April, due to Covid-19 and its curtailing of international travel, and for the health and safety of concertgoers, musicians, and staff. This is the second full season La Musica has canceled due to the pandemic.
Patrons who hold ticket credits with La Musica can apply the credit toward the 2022 season, request a refund, or donate the funds to La Musica. Details are available at LaMusicFestival.org or by calling the box office at (941) 366-8450, ext. 7.
La Musica’s “at Home” documentary series, which explores the personal lives, musical passions and performances of its renowned musicians, will continue. The third film, “La Musica at Home: Steven Lin,” was released earlier this month. Lin, a Yamaha artist, discusses his start in music, the differences between playing with a “team” and performing solo, and reveals where he’d like to play in the future. Lin made his first performance with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 12, and recently made his Carnegie debut. This film also includes a look at the custom piano work of Justin Elliott, who created the purple piano for what was to be Prince’s final tour in 2016. Upcoming documentaries will feature Dick Hyman, jazz pianist and composer; and Ann Hobson Pilot, former principal harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with Sarasota Contemporary Dance. The documentaries are free to view through multiple online platforms, including La Musica’s YouTube channel, Facebook page, and website, LaMusicaFestival.org.
La Musica’s board of directors and artistic directors are exploring opportunities to present additional virtual programs, and they look forward to presenting La Musica’s 36th season at the Sarasota Opera House April 3-13, 2022.
