In the wake of Coronavirus bringing devastating life disruptions including school closures, telecommuting, and social distancing, the Junior League of Sarasota will be using the remaining funds from their Hunger Outreach budget to help two local organizations that are most impacted. The Executive Leadership has decided to donate $10,000 to be split between Girls Inc. of Sarasota County and Senior Friendship Center to support local families and seniors directly impacted by food insecurity.
As a health precaution, Girls Inc. will be closing, but will be open to distribute food to their families who receive free breakfast and lunch at school. A donation to Girls Inc. will be used to purchase food and ensure staff are available to distribute food to families served by the organization.
The Senior Friendship Center is organizing volunteers to reach out to homebound seniors in need of meals, household supplies and to check on the general health and well-being of seniors during this time. Funds donated by Junior League Sarasota will be used to purchase groceries and meals for these members of our community who are either unable to leave their homes or are practicing social distancing in order to stay healthy.
