Julie Madison
Certified Master Dog Trainer at Top Tier K9 – Bradenton
Julie Madison, Top Tier K-9 certified dog trainer, demonstrates unmatched dedication to handler education, working closely with each dog owner to foster the best possible relationship with their dogs. Since starting her own business a year and a half ago, she has trained over 120 dogs, averaging about six dogs per month.
Prior to becoming a certified pet trainer and Foundation Dog® Trainer, she acquired years of volunteer experience rehabilitating, training, and socializing dogs at various animal shelters. Even her own dogs have been through the Top Tier K-9 training program. “I love what I do,” she says. “I show people where their dog is at, where they will be going, and then help them get on the same page.”
Though Julie remains on-call for emergencies, she prefers to “get ahead of issues instead of behind them,” using a transformational approach that is “99% rewards, 1% safe and fair corrections.” She spends “60% of her time training the dogs, and 40% training owners how to effectively communicate with them.”
“You just figure out what motivates them, what makes them want to work, and where they are in their learning process,” she says.
Everything Julie does is at a high level. When she isn’t dog training, she’s open swimming, and holds the record for being the first person to swim around Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, and Longboat Key—the first trip taking her a total of 18 hours and 12 minutes.
Julie also loves working with local organizations to give back to the community. As the Secretary for Forgotten Coast K9, she helps raise funds for veterans in need of service dogs.A full list of her services can be found on her website listed in this issue’s directory.
