JoshProvides Epilepsy Assistance Foundation recently received a $7,500 grant awarded from the Bishop Parker Foundations Fund of Manatee Community Foundation to support Manatee County families who have been diagnosed with epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
The JoshProvides Client Supportive Services and Assistance Program funding offers direct assistance to Manatee County residents diagnosed with epilepsy or other seizure disorders by offering access to our Epilepsy Support Group; assist with transportation to medical appointments while they are prohibited from driving until they are six-months seizure free; provide seizure alert & detection devices to keep them safe; and help with the cost of medical services and treatment.
Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder and 1 in 26 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime. There are over forty types of seizures and no known cure. More than 500,000 Florida residents have been diagnosed with epilepsy. Education, community awareness and dispelling the myths and misconceptions surrounding seizures is vitally important. JoshProvides assists children, families and individuals with seizure detection & alert devices, transportation to medical appointments, medical services, and community education & awareness. In addition, JoshProvides sponsors an Epilepsy Support Group which meets virtually twice a month to keep families and individuals connected to community and share local resources. The Epilepsy Support Group offers a community connection and resources to combat social isolation too often associated with epilepsy.
