Join the Elections Office as a Poll Worker
October 4, 2024 | Sarasota
Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is asking registered voters to consider being poll workers for the upcoming November 5 General Election.
“We are fortunate to have such a strong team of poll workers in our county—many of whom have been with us for years,” Turner said. “Still, there is always a need for more poll workers, especially with the general election little more than a month away.”
So far, the elections office has hired more than 1,200 poll workers and temporary employees who will work early voting and on election day. What is needed now are individuals to fill in specific areas of need or to be on call if other poll workers are unable to work.
“Just like in sports, a strong bench can be a key to success,” Turner said. “We are looking for Sarasota County voters to step up and help make the November 5 General Election a major success.”
One poll worker who has been stepping up for years is Francine Butulis. Francine has been a poll worker for five years and now helps at our Election Operations Center.
“After my first election, I was hooked,” Francine said. “There’s something about the energy and activity that happens around elections—especially as election day nears. I love it!”
Donna McGinn agrees. She has been a poll worker for seven years. For the past several elections Donna has pulled double duty, assisting voters in our call center in the weeks leading up to the election and then working at the polls on election day.
“Being a poll worker is a very rewarding experience,” Donna said. “I love giving back to the community by helping citizens navigate the process of voting.”
In Florida, poll workers are paid for their service. In Sarasota County, poll worker pay ranges between $190 and $315, depending on experience and position. Training is required and is provided by elections office staff.
In addition to getting paid, poll workers get to experience the elections process up close. So, consider joining Francine and Donna and get a behind-the-scenes look at elections in Sarasota County.
