Rea & Associates, Inc.
Jo Ann M. Koontz and Marina Parkin lead a team of tax professionals who offer clients extensive expertise in tax planning, preparation, and problem solving.
If there’s ever truly been a relationship destined for success, it’s between Marina and Jo Ann. Marina first met Jo Ann in 2008 at a tax conference while she was working as a CPA in Sarasota.
“Jo Ann was teaching one of the classes and she was young, alive, loud, and crazy compared to the others that appeared half-dead,” explains Marina. “I knew I had to meet this girl so I went up and introduced myself.”
For the first few years of their friendship, the two women shared some clients as Marina worked as a CPA and Jo Ann worked as both an attorney and CPA at separate firms. In 2012, Jo Ann called up Marina and told her to quit her job because they were going to start a joint CPA and law firm together.
“The two firms live together, they’re very symbiotic and we share a lot of clients,” says Jo Ann. “So often when you’re doing a deal either in business or real estate, which are our chief practice areas, the lawyer says you need tax advice and the accountant says you need a lawyer, and there’s nobody to translate in the middle. My primary purpose is to eliminate that finger pointing and create a common ground.”
Just a few months ago in June, 2024, their joint practice, Koontz & Parkin, merged with Ohio-based Rea & Associates, an accounting firm with an extension of over 450 industry leading professionals. The merger will allow both parties to capitalize on their industry expertise as they expand operations beyond Ohio, with a particular focus on the construction and real estate sectors.
